I am Kamalika Bhattacharya Ray and I am a singer. I have a great passion for music from the beginning of my life and music helped me to heal myself from within and to keep myself calm and positive even in the most difficult phase of my life.
Since 2014, it started, when I suddenly had been diagnosed with high blood pressure, soon came to know about by elevated creatinine level. I visited a nephrologist at Hyderabad and was under his treatment for almost two years and a kidney biopsy operation was done and it confirmed I am suffering from serious kidney disease: IGA nephropathy.
That report disappointed me a lot and had a very tough time to cope up with the pattern of life style prescribed for me by the doctor. I was in stable condition for 2 years following doctor’s instructions, yet a stage came, when my creatinine level got very high and soon doctor advised for the kidney transplantation as early as possible.
So without any delay, we met a nephrologist in Kolkata, and as per his guidance started having regular dialysis and lifestyle changes. I had to follow certain restrictions in terms of intake of food and water, had to take regular blood-making injections, high doses of blood pressure medicines etc. In this period, I became extremely weak and fragile. but I never failed to have the hope to get back my life again. Whenever doctor used to come for checkup and used to ask me how I am? I always replied with my wide smiley face that “I am fine, Doctor”. He used to laugh a lot and I also really felt good about that. So by the God’s grace and with the effort given by my family and friends, we got a proper donor and his all related blood tests got matched with mine too.
Soon, on 17th Nov, 2017 my kidney transplantation was done by the whole expert renal transplant team of Belle View Clinic. The most vital thing was, I was never tensed from the day I heard about my renal transplantation operation rather I tried to keep myself positive, relaxed, calm and patient always. I always keep my trust upon God and doctors intact. There was a big role of my entire family and friends in my life, as without them, this difficult situation wouldn’t have been easy to get through successfully.
The post-transplantation period was the far most difficult and vital phase in my life too. I was kept in a Kidney Transplant Care Unit separately, where no one else was allowed to visit me expect doctors and nurses, that too with full protections so that, I do not catch any infections. Still I used to pass my time by singing songs, lying on the bed slowly and softly, that gave me immense mental peace and worked like a magic for me. Then, gradually I got accustomed with my new grafted kidney inside me and it started functioning well. I got accustomed with the new set of kidney medicines, the immuno-suppressive medicines, steroids, antibiotics and other vital medicines.
After being discharged within 1 month from the hospital also I had to be very cautious about my health condition, so that no infection from outside could affect me, hence I had to stay in my house in a separate sterilized room with all glass windows sealed, so that no other dust from outside can entire the room. I stayed there for 6 months in a confinement continuously.
Now it is 2 years since my surgery, I am still following all the instructions given by the doctor till date. I do give regular visits to the doctor for my monthly checkups. Now I am leading a normal life by the God’s Grace and by everybody’s blessings. Presently I’m involved in my singing profession.
I thank everybody, the donor, my family, friends and doctors who all were directly involved for my new life.
Hope, I continue my musical journey and will keep myself happy and healthy lifelong with all of your blessings in my heart.
