এই মুহূর্তে গোটা দেশ ফুটবল বিশ্বকাপের উন্মাদনায় মগ্ন। অথচ ঠিক এই সময়েই দেশের রাজধানী দিল্লিতে ১৮ দিনের অনশনের পর প্রায় নিঃশব্দে মৃত্যুর দিকে এগিয়ে চলেছেন সোনম ওয়াংচুক। পর্দার ‘থ্রি ইডিয়টস’ নিয়ে উচ্ছ্বাসের শেষ নেই, কিন্তু বাস্তবের ফুন্সুখ ওয়াংড়ুর লড়াই নিয়ে দেশের বড় অংশের বিক্রীত সংবাদমাধ্যম কার্যত নীরব। কারণটা সকলেরই জানা।
সোনম ওয়াংচুক যে দুর্নীতির বিরুদ্ধে অনশন করছেন, তা কোনো বিচ্ছিন্ন ঘটনা নয়। বারবার প্রশ্নপত্র ফাঁস, পরীক্ষা ব্যবস্থার ওপর আস্থার সংকট, লক্ষ লক্ষ ছাত্রছাত্রীর ভবিষ্যৎ নিয়ে ছিনিমিনি খেলা, সব মিলিয়ে আজ এক গভীর জাতীয় সংকট।
ভাবুন, আপনার বা আমার বাড়ির একটি ছেলে বা মেয়ে বছরের পর বছর কঠোর পরিশ্রম করে NEET-এর মতো সর্বভারতীয় পরীক্ষার জন্য প্রস্তুতি নিচ্ছে। পরীক্ষা দিয়ে সে যখন ভবিষ্যতের স্বপ্ন দেখতে শুরু করেছে, তখন জানা গেল প্রশ্নপত্র ফাঁস হয়েছে, পরীক্ষা বাতিল হতে পারে বা তার ফলাফলের বিশ্বাসযোগ্যতা নেই। সেই মুহূর্তে তার মানসিক অবস্থার দায় কে নেবে? স্বপ্নভঙ্গ, অনিশ্চয়তা, হতাশা, এসবই বহু তরুণ-তরুণীকে আত্মহত্যার দিকে ঠেলে দিয়েছে। ইতিমধ্যেই অন্তত ১৩ জনের মৃত্যুর খবর সামনে এসেছে। এই মৃত্যুগুলোর নৈতিক দায় কি সরকারের নয়? সংশ্লিষ্ট মন্ত্রীর নয়?
যাঁরা এই ঘটনাকে ছোট করে দেখানোর চেষ্টা করছেন, তাঁরা আসলে দুর্নীতি, অযোগ্যতা এবং জবাবদিহিহীনতাকেই প্রশ্রয় দিচ্ছেন। ক্ষমতার দম্ভে সরকার নিজের ব্যর্থতা আড়াল করতে চাইছে। কিন্তু দেশের যুবসমাজ সেই অন্যায়ের বিরুদ্ধে রুখে দাঁড়িয়েছে। এই আন্দোলন শুধু ছাত্রদের নয়, শুধু যুবকদেরও নয়। এটি প্রতিটি সচেতন নাগরিকের আন্দোলন। কারণ আজকের পরীক্ষার্থীই আগামী দিনের চিকিৎসক, বিজ্ঞানী, শিক্ষক, প্রশাসক। তাঁদের ভবিষ্যৎ রক্ষা করা আমাদের সকলের দায়িত্ব।
সোনম ওয়াংচুক আমাদের দেশের একজন কৃতী সন্তান। আন্তর্জাতিক খ্যাতিসম্পন্ন বিজ্ঞানী, গবেষক এবং শিক্ষাবিদ। ব্যক্তিগত স্বাচ্ছন্দ্যের পথ বেছে না নিয়ে তিনি দেশের ছাত্রসমাজের পাশে দাঁড়িয়েছেন। শিক্ষাব্যবস্থার দুর্নীতির প্রতিবাদে তিনি নিজের জীবন বাজি রেখে অনশনে বসেছেন। ১৮ দিন পেরিয়ে গেলেও সরকারের কোনো মানবিক সাড়া নেই। প্রতিদিন তাঁর ওজন কমছে, শারীরিক শক্তি ক্ষয় হচ্ছে, দাঁড়িয়ে থাকার ক্ষমতাও হারিয়ে ফেলছেন। অথচ ক্ষমতার আসনে বসে থাকা মানুষগুলোর নির্বিকারতা ভাঙছে না।
প্রশ্ন একটাই। প্রশ্নপত্র ফাঁসের পেছনে কোটি কোটি টাকার যে দুর্নীতির অভিযোগ, তার প্রকৃত তদন্ত কেন হয় না? কারা এর সঙ্গে জড়িত? কেন তাদের চিহ্নিত করে দৃষ্টান্তমূলক শাস্তি দেওয়া হয় না?
কেন্দ্রীয় শিক্ষামন্ত্রী ধর্মেন্দ্র প্রধানের পদত্যাগ আজ শুধু একটি রাজনৈতিক দাবি নয়, এটি জবাবদিহি প্রতিষ্ঠার দাবি, শিক্ষাব্যবস্থার মর্যাদা রক্ষার দাবি এবং দেশের কোটি কোটি ছাত্রছাত্রীর ভবিষ্যৎ সুরক্ষিত করার দাবি।
এই দাবি আমাদেরও।

As Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike enters Day 17, we are reminded of how it all began. A comment from the apex court told us who we are, and instead of being shamed by our ‘cockroach’-like existence, we embraced it. An exam that was supposed to be a sacred gateway—already challenging enough, already brutal enough—was made into a laughing stock. The NEET paper leak was another poke in the long line of injustices that the people of our nation have been forced to endure. On top of the rising cost of living, eroding public healthcare, and a gutted education system, we are being fed substandard blended petrol.
This moment in the nation’s collective journey, and Mr Wangchuk’s hunger strike, remind us of what we went through in 2024. We might not be able to meet Mr Wangchuk, but we can feel his hunger pangs. We have seen our fellow seniors, juniors, and colleagues waste away before our eyes, for a state that was willing to play dice with their lives.
A more dire situation is unfolding at Jantar Mantar today. Mr Wangchuk is losing weight every day. Since his fast began, he has already lost about 9 kg. For a person who is as lean as he is, 9 kg is a humongous amount to lose in just about two weeks. His blood pressure remains chronically low, as do his plasma glucose levels, but his resolve remains unwavering. On Day 17, he is still resolute that his fast will only end if Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns.
We stand with Sonam Sir and demand the immediate resignation of the utterly incompetent Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan.
Alongside this, we demand:
– The NTA and the Central Government must take responsibility for the mental harassment faced by students.
– The culprits behind the 2026 and 2024 paper leaks must be identified and punished immediately.
– A transparent, scientific, and accountable examination system must be established.
– Education must be protected from corruption and commercialisation.
