Will the World End?

At this moment of crisis, I would like you to reflect.

Corona will not end the world. It will wither away like other episodes of Spanish Flue, Plague, famines and world wars. Many have died and some more will die, maybe in lakhs.

But after the Corona epidemic will be laid to rest, by nature and by people who have always stood in the frontline of battles – the health workers, scientists and dedicated socio-political leaders – the rest of the world will be back to its normal self.

A vaccine will likely emerge and Corona will become a forgotten story like the small pox and polio. But will the health care sevices in our country change? All pointers are against it. In India Health for All is a far cry.

You will again have to call your neighbours when your child is to be rushed to a hospital; you will again have to hire a labour to tend to your gardens; you will again have to call a porter to carry your luggage during your train   travels. Are you giving a thought to them now?

More importantly, arms race will resume; environmental destruction will continue for the better interests of the profiteers; the disparity between the rich and poor will worsen. People will continue to die due to hunger and malnutrition and revolts will emerge.

If you are a middle class gentleman, at this juncture you are definitely tired, bored and apprehensive of the Corona outcome.

But isn’t it time to lie down and reflect?
