23/10/2025
We issue this strongest possible protest and demand immediate, decisive action against the perpetrators of three recent, appalling incidents that represent a disturbing collapse of public safety and respect for human dignity.
1. Attack on an ANM in Birbhum (22/10/25) –
We vehemently condemn the shocking act of violence against an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) at Mahammadbazar block in Birbhum district on October 22, 2025. An attack on a healthcare worker, especially one serving in the community, is an attack on the entire public health system and a betrayal of the selfless service they provide. We demand swift, rigorous prosecution of the criminal responsible for this cowardly act. Protecting our healthcare frontline is non-negotiable.
2. Assault on Doctor and Friend for protesting of eve-teasing in Gaighata, N 24 Pgs last evening-
We express our outrage and disgust over the brutal assault on a doctor and his friend in Gaighata, North 24 Parganas. This attack was a direct, violent retaliation by miscreants engaging in eve-teasing against the doctor’s sister. This incident highlights a grim reality: when citizens stand up against gender-based harassment, they face immediate physical danger. This environment of impunity for street crime must end. The police must ensure the maximum punishment for these perpetrators to send an unequivocal message that protecting women and standing against harassment are protected rights, not reasons for assault.
3. Rape of a Teenager Inside SSKM Hospital last night –
This incident represents the ultimate failure of institutional safety and moral guardianship. We are profoundly horrified by the report that a teenage girl was raped last night inside the SSKM hospital premises by a security personnel (reportedly placed at another hospital). A hospital is a sanctuary for the vulnerable, and the safety of patients is paramount. This breach of trust by a security official is an act of depraved criminality that reminds us of the R G Kar incident last year. We demand fast-track legal proceedings to ensure this individual is jailed immediately and the agency concerned to be permanently removed from any position of public trust.
Furthermore, we call for an immediate, comprehensive audit of hospital security protocols across all state facilities to prevent such an atrocity from ever occurring again.
These three incidents – violence against a public servant, retaliatory street crime against defenders of women’s honor, and a heinous sexual assault within a medical sanctuary – are a collective indictment of the current state of law and order.
We demand action, not assurances.
