সারা দেশ বর্তমানে পরীক্ষার প্রশ্নপত্র ফাঁসের ঘটনা নিয়ে উত্তাল। ক্ষোভের আঁচ রাজধানীর সীমানা পেরিয়ে গোটা ভারতবর্ষে ছড়িয়ে পড়েছে, কারণ এই সমস্যা আমাদের প্রত্যেকের। ভবিষ্যৎ প্রজন্মকে অন্ধকারে ঠেলে দেওয়া থেকে আটকাতে দিকে দিকে ছাত্ররা প্রতিবাদ কর্মসূচি, মিছিল, অনশন ও আন্দোলন করছে। অপরদিকে, তাদের ওপর নেমে আসছে দেশদ্রোহীর তকমা, দেওয়া হচ্ছে হুমকি, চলছে পুলিশের লাঠিচার্জ।
তবে এই সবকিছুকে ছাপিয়ে স্বৈরাচারের এক অনন্য নিদর্শন সৃষ্টি করেছেন বর্ধমান মেডিক্যাল কলেজ কর্তৃপক্ষ। সেখানে ছাত্ররা ন্যায্যভাবেই প্রশ্নপত্র ফাঁসের ঘটনার প্রতিবাদে প্রতীকী অনশন করতে চাইলে কর্তৃপক্ষের তরফ থেকে এক অদ্ভুত নোটিস জারি করা হয়, যেখানে বলা হয়, “কলেজ ক্যাম্পাসে কোনো রকম প্রতিবাদ কর্মসূচি করা যাবে না।” শুধু তাই নয়, ওই ছাত্রদের ডেকে নানা ধরনের হুমকিও দেওয়া হয়। ঘটনাটি নিয়ে ছাত্রদের মধ্যে শোরগোল পড়ে গেলে কর্তৃপক্ষ প্রশাসনের সাহায্য নিয়ে সেই হুমকির মাত্রা আরও বাড়াতে থাকেন।
এ প্রসঙ্গে বলে রাখা ভালো, এই কর্তৃপক্ষই কিছুদিন আগে একইভাবে ফ্যাসিবাদী কায়দায় কলেজ ক্যাম্পাসের দেওয়ালে অভয়া আন্দোলনের সময় লেখা সমস্ত স্লোগান ও আঁকা সমস্ত ছবি রাতের অন্ধকারে মুছে দিয়েছিলেন। তাদের এই ধরনের আচরণের তীব্র নিন্দা জানাতে আমরা বাধ্য হচ্ছি।
জনসাধারণের করের টাকায় গড়ে ওঠা একটি শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠানে গণতান্ত্রিক অধিকারের কণ্ঠরোধ করে এহেন আচরণ কি কোনো সভ্য সমাজে গ্রহণযোগ্য হতে পারে? NEET-এর প্রশ্নপত্র ফাঁসের প্রতিবাদ ডাক্তারি ছাত্ররা তাদের নিজেদের ক্যাম্পাসেই করবে না?
এই ঘটনা আমাদের মনে করিয়ে দেয় ২০২১ সালের আর.জি. কর মেডিক্যাল কলেজের ঘটনা। তৎকালীন প্রিন্সিপাল সন্দীপ ঘোষের নানা ধরনের দুর্নীতি ও ফ্যাসিবাদী কার্যকলাপের বিরুদ্ধে একদল ছাত্র প্রতিবাদ করায় তাদের ওপর অত্যাচার করা হয় এবং প্রশাসনের প্রচ্ছন্ন মদতে সেই প্রতিবাদ ভেঙে দেওয়া হয়। তার ফল কতটা ভয়াবহ হতে পারে, তা আমরা অভয়ার ঘটনায় দেখেছি।
আমাদের আশঙ্কা, বর্ধমান মেডিক্যাল কলেজ কর্তৃপক্ষের এই ধরনের ছোট ছোট পদক্ষেপ ভবিষ্যতের আর-একজন সন্দীপ ঘোষ বা নর্থ বেঙ্গল লবির মতো কোনো গোষ্ঠীর জন্ম দেওয়ার সূচনা মাত্র। শাসককে খুশি করতে ছাত্রদের ন্যায্য দাবির কণ্ঠরোধ করার ঘটনা আমরা গত ১৫ বছরে বারবার দেখেছি। আমরা চাই না সেই ঘটনার পুনরাবৃত্তি হোক।
তাই এই ঘটনার তীব্র নিন্দা জানাচ্ছে ওয়েস্ট বেঙ্গল জুনিয়র ডক্টরস ফ্রন্ট (WBJDF)। একই সঙ্গে সকল গণতন্ত্রপ্রিয় ছাত্র, শিক্ষক ও অধ্যাপকের কাছে আমাদের আহ্বান, এই ঘটনার বিরুদ্ধে সোচ্চার হোন এবং প্রতিবাদে শামিল হোন।
The entire country is currently in turmoil over incidents of question paper leaks in examinations. The anger has spread beyond the capital to the whole of India, because this problem concerns each and every one of us. To prevent the future generation from being pushed into darkness, students across the country are organizing protest programs, rallies, hunger strikes, and movements. On the other hand, they are being branded as traitors, threatened, and subjected to police baton charges.
However, above and beyond all this, the authorities of Burdwan Medical College have created a unique example of authoritarianism. When students there, quite justifiably, wanted to hold a symbolic hunger strike in protest against the question paper leak, the authorities issued a bizarre notice stating, “No form of protest program will be allowed on the college campus.” Not only that, the students were summoned and threatened in various ways. When the matter caused an uproar among the students, the authorities, with the help of the administration, began escalating the threats even further.
It is worth mentioning here that this same authority had, some time ago, in a similarly fascistic manner, erased overnight from the walls of the college campus all slogans and all drawings made during the Abhaya movement. We are compelled to strongly condemn such behavior.
Can such conduct be acceptable in any civilized society, where democratic rights are suppressed in an institution built with the tax money of the public? Will medical students not protest the NEET question paper leak on their own campus?
This incident reminds us of the events at R.G. Kar Medical College in 2021. When a group of students protested against the various corrupt and fascistic activities of the then principal, Sandip Ghosh, they were subjected to harassment, and with the tacit support of the administration, that protest was crushed. We have seen how disastrous the consequences of that could be in the Abhaya incident.
We fear that these small steps by the authorities of Burdwan Medical College are only the beginning of the rise of yet another Sandip Ghosh or a group like the North Bengal lobby. We have repeatedly seen over the past 15 years how the voices of students’ legitimate demands have been suppressed to please those in power. We do not want that to happen again.
Therefore, the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front (WBJDF) strongly condemns this incident. At the same time, we appeal to all democratic students, teachers, and professors to raise their voices against this incident and join the protest.
