The Abhaya Movement is not just about one doctor. It is about every citizen’s right to justice, every student’s right to a corruption-free education, every patient’s right to a healthcare system free from rot. What we see today is systematic betrayal.
1. Assault on Peaceful Protest
Peaceful doctors and citizens protesting for Justice for Abhaya are facing police vengeance, intimidation, and harassment. This is in utter defiance of the Supreme Court’s solemn order dated 20.08.2024. When the Apex Court itself is mocked on the streets, what justice can a common citizen expect?
2. Abhaya Case: A travesty of Justice
•The CBI has reduced itself to a notary of Kolkata Police’s failures.
•No interrogation of senior IPS officers or the Health Secretary.
•No chargesheet on evidence tampering, no accountability for top-level corruption.
This is not investigation — it is complicity. The National Task Force created by the Chief Justice of India himself has been thrown into the dustbin. Is this what justice has come to mean in today’s India?
3. Corruption in Recruitment: Education and Health Sold Out
When SSC recruitment scams shook the state, we have enough reasons and apprehensions that the Health Recruitment Board (HRB) will follow the same path.
•Despite a Calcutta HC ruling (2022) banning politicians from chairing selection committees, Dr. Sudipta Roy still sits in power.
•CBI and ED raids at the homes of WBMC President and HRB Chairman prove rot at the core. Why are they still in office? Who protects them?
This is not recruitment. This is selling careers and futures for a price.
4. WBMC’s Nexus and Criminal Silence
•A nexus between WBMC members, RG Kar authorities, and political operators has been strongly suspected in the Abhaya murder.
•A High-Power Government Committee found WBMC office bearers guilty of misconduct.
Yet — no action.
No accountability.
Why? Who are they shielding?
5. Resurrection of the Disgraced
The removal of Manas Chakraborty by Calcutta HC was seen as a small victory. Yet today, he is back in power – reintroduced in WBMC in an /illegal unsanctioned post, gifted signing authority. Judicial orders mocked, citizens betrayed.
6. Threat Culture Returns
At Malda Medical Colleges and many other institutions, officials hold political meetings during working hours. Principals instruct subordinates to join. This is nothing but institutional coercion. Our colleges are turning into political playgrounds. Even College Officials forcing students and residents to join Political parties rallies.
7. Vendetta Against Doctors
WBMC has become a weapon to harass and silence doctors.
•Mental agony unleashed, careers threatened.
•Corruption continues, unchecked.
•Compulsory credit-hours for license renewal – without legal basis, without accountability. RTI replies are being stonewalled.
Is WBMC above the law?
8. Corruption That Kills
From biomedical waste scams, to low-quality medicines, to inflated purchase of machines, to money rackets in doctor transfers — the rot runs through the veins of the health system.
This is not just corruption. This is a crime against patients, against every life put at risk.
9. Vandalism Buried
The 14th August 2024 midnight vandalism at RG Kar has been brushed aside by both Kolkata Police and CBI. Silence, once again, screams of complicity.
Our Demands — For the Sake of Democracy
1. Immediate removal of tainted WBMC and HRB officials.
2. Court-monitored investigation into Abhaya’s rape and murder, interrogating senior officials without fear or favour.
3. Suspension and trial of officials found complicit in corruption.
4. Protection of protesters and doctors from police vengeance.
5. Total transparency in WBMC, HRB, and medical college governance.
This Is Bigger Than Abhaya
Justice for Abhaya is justice for every daughter who dares to dream.
It is justice for every patient who enters a hospital with hope.
It is justice for every student whose future is not for sale.
If we allow this nexus of power and corruption to thrive, we are condemning ourselves to a society where truth is buried, justice is sold, and human life is expendable.
How much longer will we remain silent when TRUTH is being throttled?
How much longer will the powerful hide behind agencies and institutions – meant to serve the people – but now turned into shields for the guilty?
