Subject: Demand for immediate dismissal of vindictive cases against Doctors and some of the hapless co-citizens in connection with protest movement for the cause of Justice for Abhaya.

The Joint Platform of Doctors, WB alongside with umpteen co-citizens having the uniform hue of protest against the travesty of justice for Abhaya feel shockingly dumbfounded with the deepest sense of dismay in connection with the battery of sordid, domineering course of recent actions from the end of Kolkata Police against the doctors and a section of protesting voice across the society, clearly exhibiting malicious administrative retribution with strong suspicious components of vexation and vengeance therein.
We beseech your immediate attention with due priority to the facts as flagged below and urge upon your esteemed office to pay due honour to the legitimate demands enumerated hereinunder.
Whereas it can never be beyond the knowledge of the police administration that after the organised institutional murder of Abhaya in August 2024 as an obvious consequence of dastardly heinous unabated criminal activities perpetuated by the then local authority and close accomplices within the RG Kar MC,Kolkata itself, the society in its entirety gave birth to an unprecedented historical wave of peaceful democratic movement through hitting the street every now and then.
Whereas the doctors and their fellow soldiers within the common mass have actively and rightfully participated with the natural leadership batton in their hands and poured fuel to the protest movement for the sole cause of justice. They have never contravened to the laid down principles of basic primary right of expression of peaceful protest as conferred by the constitution of India.
Whereas citing some trivial insignificant issues related with democratic protests, that too about one year ago, the different PS under Kolkata Police are sending Summons in phases to the Doctors with the sole vile objective to exercise sheer vexation and consequently putting the public services at jeopardy to a greater extent. It is further appalling to see that Doctors above Sixty years of age are summoned to visit police station outside the residential area in utter contravention to legal principles as enumerated under 179 BNSS. Further to state that such disgusting police summons with inherent ulterior and nefarious component of intimidation and persistent agonizing ache largely hinders the doctors to extend desired service to the moribund mass as a natural fallout.
Whereas it may please be reminded that the Hon’ble Supreme Court in its solemn Order dated 20.8.24 has clearly said that ” Govt of West Bengal will observe necessary restraints in the face of peaceful protest by any quarter of civil society bearing the issue of Abhaya. It is to be ensured that power of the state will not be unleashed upon the peaceful protesters”.
Whereas a recent communication in this aforesaid matter on behalf of the Joint Platform has been mailed to the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Go WB with a copy to your good office but unfortunately without any significant palpable change of administrative mindset till this day.
Now in the light of the above, we strongly urge upon you to take appropriate measures to our below mentioned reasonable demands.
A. Immediate Dismissal of ongoing insignificant trivial cases involving the Doctors and fellow peaceful protesters in historical Abhaya movement.
B. Stop to send similar notifications in no time to the Doctors and others merely for their constitutionally rightful participation in peaceful democratic protest movement.
C. Not to jeopardize public services and compromise with desired care of moribund masses by unnecessarily calling the caregivers from far distance.
We once again reiterate that we firmly expect your respectful and duly prioritized consideration of just demands stated hereinabove with speedy appreciable and favourable outcome therein, failing which will compel us alongside the society at large to sharpen the dimension of more courageous and vibrant democratic movement to a broader extent with possible impacts therein, the onus of which will lie square upon none other than the police administration itself.
Before concluding we would like to intimate you that a Five membered representative team from Joint Platform of Doctors will physically meet you at your office chamber in Lalbazar amidst your busy schedule on *3rd of September, 2025* , *preferably after 3 pm* to discuss over the burning issues as depicted in this aforesaid memorandum, for a short while.
