যাদবপুর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, উত্তরবঙ্গ মেডিক্যাল কলেজ সহ বিভিন্ন কলেজ ক্যাম্পাসের পর এবার সত্যজিৎ রায় ফিল্ম অ্যান্ড টেলিভিশন ইনস্টিটিউট।
প্রাপ্ত খবর অনুযায়ী, SRFTI-এর একটি হল ভাড়া নিয়ে RSS-এর শাখা সংগঠন অখিল ভারতীয় গ্রাহক পঞ্চায়েতের (ABGP) একটি অনুষ্ঠান চলছিল। সেই অনুষ্ঠানে তীব্র বিদ্বেষমূলক বক্তব্য ও প্রচার চলতে থাকায় কয়েকজন ছাত্রছাত্রী সেখানে গিয়ে তার প্রতিবাদ জানান। এরপরই তাঁদের উপর চরম শারীরিক আক্রমণ চালানো হয়। শুরু হয় বচসা, আর সেই বচসা ক্রমশ ভয়াবহ সংঘর্ষের রূপ নেয়।
ঘটনার খবর পেয়ে আরও ছাত্রছাত্রী এবং শিক্ষকরা ঘটনাস্থলে পৌঁছন। তাঁরা প্রতিরোধ গড়ে তোলেন। মূল আক্রমণকারীদের কয়েকজনকে আটকে রেখে পুলিশের হাতে তুলে দেওয়ার উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হয়।
কিন্তু এরপরই পরিস্থিতি আরও ভয়াবহ হয়ে ওঠে।বহিরাগতদের একটি বড় দল ক্যাম্পাসে ঢুকে আক্রমণকারীদের ছাড়িয়ে নিয়ে যাওয়ার চেষ্টা করে। প্রায় ২০০ জন বহিরাগত গেট ঘিরে দাঁড়িয়ে পড়ে। গেট আটকে দেওয়া হয়। বাইরে থেকে। ছাত্রছাত্রীদের লক্ষ্য করে ইট, পাথর, জলের বোতল ছোড়া হয়। আর সেই সময় পুলিশ দীর্ঘক্ষণ কার্যত নীরব দর্শকের ভূমিকা পালন করে। কলেজের প্রশাসনিক প্রধানদের বার বার যোগাযোগের চেষ্টা করলেও পাওয়া যায়নি এই আক্রমণের সময়।
এর মধ্যেই ছাত্রছাত্রীদের ছুরির আঘাত করা হয়। মাথা, নাক, মুখ ফাটিয়ে রক্তাক্ত করা হয় বহু ছাত্রছাত্রীকে। মহিলা ছাত্রীরাও শারীরিক ও মৌখিক আক্রমণের শিকার হন। ছাত্রছাত্রীদের অভিযোগ, তাঁদের ‘দেশবিরোধী’, ‘জিহাদি’ ইত্যাদি বলে হেনস্থা করা হয়।
শুধু যারা প্রতিবাদ করছিলেন তাঁরাই নন, ক্যাম্পাসের ভিতরে থাকা অন্যান্য ছাত্রছাত্রীদেরও তাড়া করা হয়। অনেকে প্রাণ বাঁচাতে লাইব্রেরিতে আশ্রয় নেন। অভিযোগ, সেখানেও হামলাকারীরা পৌঁছে যায় এবং লাইব্রেরিয়ানকেও হেনস্থা করা হয়। শিক্ষকরা ছাত্রছাত্রীদের রক্ষা করতে এগিয়ে এলে তাঁরাও আক্রমণের হাত থেকে রেহাই পাননি। প্রকাশিত রিপোর্ট অনুযায়ী, প্রায় ৩০ জন ছাত্রছাত্রী এবং ২ জন শিক্ষক আহত হয়েছেন।
সবচেয়ে ভয়ঙ্কর বিষয়গুলির একটি হল, আহত ছাত্রছাত্রীদের হাসপাতালে নিয়ে যাওয়ার সময় অ্যাম্বুল্যান্স পর্যন্ত আটকে দেওয়ার অভিযোগ উঠেছে। দীর্ঘক্ষণ ক্যাম্পাসের ভিতরে ছাত্রছাত্রী ও শিক্ষকরা কার্যত অবরুদ্ধ অবস্থায় ছিলেন।
এমনকি প্রেস বিবৃতি দেওয়ার সময়ও সাংবাদিকদের সামনেই ছাত্রদের উপর হামলা, মারধর এবং জামাকাপড় ছিঁড়ে দেওয়ার অভিযোগ উঠেছে।
এ কোন পরিস্থিতি? একটি শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানে বাইরে থেকে রাজনৈতিক সংগঠনের লোকজন এসে সেই প্রতিষ্ঠানের ছাত্রছাত্রীদের রক্তাক্ত করে যাবে, শিক্ষকরা আক্রান্ত হবেন, আহতদের নিয়ে যাওয়া অ্যাম্বুল্যান্স আটকে দেওয়া হবে, আর প্রশাসন ও পুলিশ কার্যত নীরব থাকবে? পুলিশ ও কলেজ কর্তৃপক্ষ কোনোভাবেই দায় এড়িয়ে যেতে পারেনা! ক্ষমতার পদলেহন করতে গিয়ে ছাত্রছাত্রীদের সুরক্ষা ও ক্যাম্পাসের গণতন্ত্রকে পরোক্ষে খুন করা হচ্ছে, এ জিনিস সভ্য সমাজে চলতে পারে না!
এটা শুধু একটি ক্যাম্পাসে সংঘর্ষের ঘটনা নয়। একটি শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানের ভিতরে ছাত্রছাত্রীদের নিরাপত্তা, মতপ্রকাশের অধিকার এবং গণতান্ত্রিক পরিবেশের উপর সরাসরি আক্রমণ। প্রশাসনের এই নীরবতা যদি আক্রান্তদের নিরাপত্তা নিশ্চিত না করে, তাহলে সেই নীরবতাকে প্রশ্রয় হিসেবেই দেখতে বাধ্য হতে হয়।
পুলিশ FIR করেছে। কিন্তু অভিযোগ থাকা সত্ত্বেও অভিযুক্তদের বিরুদ্ধে এখনও কার্যকর ব্যবস্থা না নেওয়ার অভিযোগ কেন উঠছে, তার জবাব প্রশাসনকে দিতে হবে।
পূর্বতন সরকারের আমলে আমরা ‘থ্রেট কালচার’-এর ভয়াবহ রূপ দেখেছি। অভয়া আন্দোলন সেই ভয়, দমন এবং অন্যায়ের পরিবেশের বিরুদ্ধে সাধারণ মানুষকে রাস্তায় দাঁড়াতে শিখিয়েছে। সেই আন্দোলনের অভিঘাত আজও সমাজের সর্বত্র প্রবাহমান। নতুন সরকারের মাথায় রাখা উচিত, বাংলার মানুষ গুণ্ডামির রাজনীতি চায় না। চায় না শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানে বহিরাগতদের দাপট, ভয় দেখানোর রাজনীতি, ভেদাভেদ এবং হানাহানি।
শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠান থাকবে ছাত্রছাত্রীদের। ক্যাম্পাসে থাকবে গণতন্ত্র ও মতপ্রকাশের অধিকার।বহিরাগত গুণ্ডামির বিরুদ্ধে প্রতিবাদ ও প্রতিরোধ হোক সর্বত্র।
আমরা সর্বতোভাবে আক্রান্ত ছাত্রছাত্রী ও শিক্ষকদের পাশে আছি। ঘটনার পূর্ণাঙ্গ ও নিরপেক্ষ তদন্ত করতে হবে। প্রত্যেক অভিযুক্তকে চিহ্নিত করে আইনের আওতায় আনতে হবে এবং দোষীদের দৃষ্টান্তমূলক শাস্তি নিশ্চিত করতে হবে।
We strongly condemn the heinous attack perpetrated by external miscreants on the students of SRFTI.
It feels like a never-ending nightmare. First Jadavpur University, then North Bengal Medical College, and now, tragically, the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute.
From what we hear, an RSS-affiliated group, Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat, was holding an event in a rented hall on campus. When they started spewing hateful rhetoric and propaganda, a few students stepped up to protest. What followed was a brutal physical assault. A heated argument quickly spiraled into a terrifying, violent clash.
Other students and teachers rushed to the scene to defend them. They managed to corner a few of the main attackers and were ready to hand them over to the cops.
But then all hell broke loose.
A massive mob of outsiders stormed the campus to rescue the attackers. Around 200 thugs barricaded the gates. They started pelting the students with bricks, stones, and water bottles from the outside. Meanwhile, law enforcement inexplicably remained passive bystanders for an extended period.
The violence was sickening. Students were stabbed. Many were left bleeding from busted heads, noses, and faces. Female students were physically and verbally assaulted, branded as ‘anti-nationals’ and ‘jihadis’ by the mob.
The terror wasn’t just limited to the protesters; they hunted down anyone on campus. Terrified students barricaded themselves in the library, but the mob broke in there too, even harassing the librarian. Teachers who tried to shield their students were beaten. Reports say at least 30 students and two teachers were injured.
In perhaps the most heartbreaking twist, they even blocked the ambulances trying to take the bleeding students to the hospital. For hours, the campus was turned into a hostage situation for the students and teachers.
They even had the audacity to beat up students and tear their clothes right in front of journalists while they were giving a press statement.
What have we come to? Outsiders walk into an educational space, leave students bleeding, attack teachers, block ambulances, and the administration and police practically remain silent? The police and the campus authorities absolutely cannot wash their hands of this responsibility! By pandering to those in power, they are indirectly murdering student safety and campus democracy. This cannot be tolerated in a civilized society! We are left asking: how long will this law of the jungle be allowed to persist?
This isn’t just a campus brawl. It’s a direct assault on student safety, free speech, and our democratic rights. Silence in the face of this violence isn’t neutrality; it’s permission.
Yes, the police filed an FIR. But the administration owes us an answer: why is there still no real action against the culprits despite the complaints? Why are the campus authorities and the legal system acting as nothing more than mere spectators, and how long will this anarchy be allowed to persist?
We survived the nightmare of ‘threat culture’ under the previous regime. The Abhaya movement taught ordinary people to take to the streets and fight back against fear, suppression, and injustice. The impact of that movement is still alive today. The new government needs a reality check: Bengal is sick and tired of thuggery. We don’t want goons ruling our campuses through fear, division, and bloodshed.
Campuses belong to the students. They must remain safe havens for free thought and democracy. We must stand up and resist this outside thuggery everywhere.
We stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the attacked students and teachers.
We demand a full, prompt, and impartial investigation into this incident. Every single person involved must be identified, and strict legal action must be taken against them as soon as possible.
