Recently, three Professors of the college have been suspended from all administrative posts on charges of threatening students for dissenting against College Authority in demand of proper hostel accomodation and pressurizing them to join the student organisation of the ruling party, TMCP. Inquiry proceedings have already been initiated against these professors. Just after this incident, one of these alleged Professors, Dr. Ishita Sengupta, raised allegations against an intern of the college of misbehaving and using abusive language at her and filed a complaint against him and forwarded it to the Principal and the DME. IMA Calcutta Branch also sent a complaint against him to the Swasthya Bhavan. FYI, the alleged intern, Sabit Hussain, has been an active face in the movement led by the students in demand of proper Hostel Accomodation and against the Professors threatening students. The alleged intern was sent a summon just a day before the first inquiry meeting. The inquiry committee was constituted without conducting any College Council Meeting and without any Student representative. The most amusing fact is that two members of the formed inquiry committee are members of the same IMA Calcutta Branch, which filed a complaint against the intern. Among the members in the inquiry committee are, Dr. Manab Nandy, the Vice President and Dr. Dibyendu Ray Chaudhuri, an executive member of IMA Calcutta Branch. They themselves raise allegations, they file complaint to themselves, and then, themselves carry out the investigation. This reflects how nakedly they misuse their authority without the least constitutionality.
MCSU put forward a deputation before the College Authority to dissolve this unconstitutional Inquiry Committee where the members are in direct conflict of interest and ensure that such members are not included in the further inquiry committees. The inquiry committee of the said incident has been dissolved and the first inquiry meeting has been dismissed. A new inquiry committee will be formed with inclusion of Student Representatives.
It is very evident that this incident is completely fabricated by TMC, as it cannot accept the huge blow to its closely associated Professors by the students of the college. No matter how bigger conspiracies they plot against the students, how many threats they give, TMC cannot stop us from dissenting for our rightful demands. All their conspiracies, all their power will fail before our unity. MCDSA shall continue to fight to save the democratic space at MCK. Stand united with Sabit Hussain against TMC’s conspiracy.
