It is immensely shocking and alarming to see that significant number of Doctors, emotionally involved and firmly committed with uncompromising mindset in democratically conducted Abhaya Movement with an aim to unearth the actual truth and bring the Justice early, are being bestowed with state sponsored agonizing harassment in pause-free bizarre manner via battery of coercive measures, notoriously multiplied with actions, apparently defined with malicious intent and ulterior motive from the end of the office bearers of West Bengal Medical Council, elected two years back through a completely tainted and polluted election with countless allegations, now pending for order before the hon’ble Court of law.
We are not reiterating the very known names of worst victims from Doctors community and reprehensible course of administrative actions as it has already come in Media time and again and all those incidents have sufficiently sparked an widespread outrage across the society at large. But the administration and allied machinery deliberately mounts up similar attacks, clearly reflecting its vengeance to an myriad extent in uninterrupted fashion.
Today’s incident of unthinkable atrocious harassment unleashed by Kolkata Police, transgressing beyond their domain of right conferred within the Constitutional fabric of our country, in connection with Dr Rajat Subhra Banerjee, an NRI doctor of Modern Medicine (alumnus of NRS MC) as widely circulated via media, has stirred up a furious storm within the medical fraternity at large. It is worth mentioning here that the said person reportedly had organised and participated in Abhaya protest movement in United Kingdom. Apparently consequent upon this, as heard from few reliable sources , the same West Bengal Medical Council, also initiated to proceed to book him for unnecessary trivial matters, as previously done in identical manner with number of medicos. Not only Dr Bandyopadhay but few other eminent Doctors of our state too, as reported from multiple sources, are recently being mentally tortured and harassed in similar orchestrated fashion for their common offence of participating in the just cause of Abhaya Movement.
It is further disappointing to state that as already reported in leading dailies in recent past, the current medical council in an obnoxious manner daringly try to intimidate medical practitioners for minor issues and even ask sometime for illegal cash from panic shaken doctors. Even this Council in contravention to Gazette Notification from NMC dated 23.8.23 is pressing upon its registered doctors, toward various kind of activities, not being elaborated here, though seem to be illegal to large extent.
The Joint Platform of Doctors, West Bengal strongly denounce such unjust and undemocratic course of action in various manner, unleashed upon the peaceful protesters of Abhaya Movement, shamefully exhibited by Govt of WB as well as quasi judiciary bodies like WBMC and other . We strictly demand that in order not to frustrate and damage further the spirit and essence of democratic right of protest for our co- citizens, the administration in no time must take appropriate measures to put a stop to such nefarious discourse and let the honor and dignity of Medical Council and State administration at large be no way thrown into abyss of despair.
