The number of Covid cases in West Bengal is on an alarming rise. We at Medical College, Kolkata have been fighting against this pandemic since it initially hit our state. Currently we are treating Covid patients in 660 beds. A large number of our colleagues, teaching faculties, nurses, technicians, students, Group D staff have been infected and are being infected continuously during this period!
In the wake of the peak of the pandemic, it is time to immediately arrange without delay atleast 200 more covid beds in all other tertiary hospitals of Kolkata added to the existing 660 Covid beds of MCK and atleast 50-80 Covid beds in every district hospital.
The task at stake, the mammoth upcoming fight against the Covid peak will be much tougher, much more difficult, stressful and perhaps fatal to many of us healthcare workers. It is the most urgent need of the hour to decentralise our war camps! The war against a PANDEMIC cannot be fought only from a meagre few institutions, no matter how MIGHTY they are.
- Demand scientific planning!
- Decentralise Covid treatment centres instead of overburdening a few specific hospitals and draining them!
